Coconut Oil For Insulin Resistance and Diabetes

Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, which has antibacterial, antiviral and antiparasitic properties. Since certain fungi release mycotoxins which can damage the beta cells in the pancreas, it is important to strengthen the immune system, and rid the body of fungi and yeast. Coconut oil does just this.

Since diabetics have a 65% higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s than non-diabetics, Alzheimer's prevention is crucial. The unique saturated fats in coconut oil are made up of MCT’s, or medium chain triglycerides. These MCT’s are converted in the liver to ketones, which can be used by neurons (brain cells) as energy, in place of glucose. In fact, the brain can utilize ketones to supply more than 75% of the energy it needs to function! With diabetes, the cells of the body become insulin resistant, especially the brain cells. This explains why many diabetics experience brain fog, the brain cells cannot get the glucose they need. The MCT’s in coconut oil can fill in the gap and provide brain cells with energy, restoring them to normal.

For this reason coconut oil has been used to prevent, manage and treat Alzheimer's. Coconut oil has the added benefit of stabilizing blood sugar levels. To reach these protective levels between 3-5 tablespoons of coconut oil should be consumed per day.

Despite the fact that coconut oil contains saturated fats, it actually raises good HDL cholesterol, and lowers the risk of heart attack..

Hydrogenated coconut oil contains trans fats, so make sure to use only non-hydrogenated) extra virgin cold-pressed coconut oil. Real coconut oil tastes good, and adds a nice flavor to foods. If it doesn’t taste good, try another brand.

For Alzheimer's prevention, a diet high in healthy Omega-3 fats is very important. Nuts, Seeds, and avocados are all great sources of healthy fats and can be added to salads for enhanced nutrient absorption. Flax seeds are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. 1-2 tablespoons of flax seed oil or at least 2-3 tablespoons of ground flax seeds per day is recommended. Ground flax seeds also aid blood sugar regulation and can be consumed along with meals.
