The Health Benefits of Olive Leaf

Olive leaves have been renowned for thousands of years for their healing benefits.

Olive leaf extract was traditionally used in the Middle East to treat wounds and infections. Olive leaf extract is one of the best ways to destroy dangerous pathogenic bacteria and viruses.

The unique polyphenols in olive leaves are considered to be the responsible for giving olive oil and olive leaves their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Oleuropein is the active component in olive leaf extract which is converted in the body from oleuropein into elolenic acid. Elolenic acid enhances immunity so the body can effectively destroy viruses, pathogenic bacteria, and fungi.

Olive leaf has 400 percent more antioxidants than vitamin C and double the antioxidants found in green tea.

Health Benefits of Olive Leaf:

1) Strengthens the Immune System:

Olive leaf extract can help support the functions of the immune system. If it is used regularly, the extract will increase the body's ability to fight off illness and disease.

2) Fights Candida (Yeast) Infections

Olive leaf extract has been used for the treatment Candida Clbicans. In fact, Dr. Morton Walker, author of the book Olive Leaf Extract, believes that olive leaf can kill fungi not just inhibit their growth. The leaves have also been found to be effective against one of the bacteria that causes urinary tract infections and pneumonia. This bacteria has become increasingly resistant to antibiotics.

3) Potent Anti-viral

Oleuropein, a polyphenol in olive leaf, actively destroys viruses. It puts an unbreakable and impenetrable “force field” around viruses so they cannot move from cell to cell and continue to grow and replicate.

4) Effective against Shingles (herpes zoster)

Studies show that olive leaf extract is effective in inhibiting the growth of and destroying all forms of the herpes virus, including herpes zoster (shingles).

5) Digestive Aid

Olive leaf extract assists the body in getting rid of excess water and harmful toxins. An added benefit is that it improves digestion and prevents the growth of harmful microbes throughout the digestive tract.

6) Treatment of Diabetes

At the University of Auckland, researchers have discovered that olive leaf extract can have a positive impact on the day-to-day management of diabetes. They studied 46 overweight men over a period of 6 weeks. The study showed that after 6 weeks of olive leaf extract supplementation, production of insulin in the pancreas was increased by 28%while at the same time reducing insulin resistance of the cells by 15%. Specifically, the study found that regular supplementation with olive leaf extract can not only increase pancreatic beta cell production of insulin but also lower insulin resistance in the cells to make insulin more efficient at regulating blood sugar levels.
